What Exactly is the Impact of Digital Transformation? Changing business needs means we also must consider people and processes, not just technology
|
Information is one of an organisation’s most important assets. But managing information is becoming increasingly more complex: it is no longer only about digitising documents, sending scanned files to a folder on a shared drive or managing documents through a workflow. Companies are increasingly considering the process of managing information as just one of the steps required to reach a greater goal of digital transformation across their entire organisation.
The industry buzz and new catchy terminology is all about digital transformation. But what exactly does this mean to your organisation? Digital transformation is not only about the technology you use. Digital transformation is also about how the people and processes in your organisation work – and it is an ongoing journey, not a one-time trip.
What should you consider as you evaluate your (or your customer’s) digital transformation readiness?
| As you evaluate your organisation’s digital transformation capabilities – or if you are a channel partner or systems integrator selling IT solutions - you might wish to consider some of the following questions:
|
The upside benefits of digitisation for European industry is staggering
Numerous studies from AIIM, Harvard Business Review, Forrester, Gartner and others have presented research that shows how organisations who have taken steps towards digital transformation typically experience numerous benefits, including better customer engagement, greater cost savings and improved operational efficiency. According to a study highlighted by the Harvard Business Review if European companies could effectively harness digitization, by 2025, the continent could see its manufacturing industry add gross value of 1.25 trillion euros. The risks of failing to digitize are equally dramatic: from missing out on digital transformation, European industries could suffer potential losses of up to 605 billion euros in the same period.
Luckily - thanks to technology which is friendly to the user and easy on the budget - digital transformation is within reach for all organisations: small and mid-sized businesses, not-for-profit and government organisations. One impressive example is a mobile document scan-and-capture solution for logistics and transportation delivered by Tconsult , which enables drivers of transport vehicles to immediately scan documents directly from their vehicle cab and connect with their back-office and fleet management systems. The system is easy to install, easy to use and scalable for any logistics needs - from one truck to a fleet of thousands.
Improving process with better information management can be realised across all industries and organisations – with some companies just starting the journey and others in their second, third or fourth iteration.
In any respect, the digital transformation journey is worth it: with more efficient processes, better internal collaboration and improved customer communication, what could be the potential impact on your company’s bottom line and on your employees’ well-being?
